Shannon J. Scott, Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology), received her doctoral degree from the APA accredited Wright Institute in Berkeley, and completed her pre and post doctoral training at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco where she was Chief Intern. She has been working with children, teens and adults throughout the Bay Area since 1997. Her training and background combine a depth of knowledge and application of psychodynamic theory, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, as well as the practical and strategic aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectial Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Scott draws from each of these in her work by compassionately helping her clients overcome obstacles in order to set, implement and ultimately reach their goals.
Dr. Scott has maintained her private practice in San Francisco since 2008 and opened an additional office in Marin in 2015. Prior to that, she gained a variety of experience throughout the bay area working in adult psychotherapy clinics, schools (both elementary and high school), child and adolescent outpatient clinics, university counseling centers, and hospitals (emergency departments and pediatric units). She has a special interest and focus in the parent-child relationship throughout the child's developmental stages, and centered her doctoral dissertation and accompanying research on this topic. Dr. Scott is a frequent speaker to parent groups, schools, KRON 4 news, and other organizations throughout the bay area. She is the proud mom of two, and humbly knows and enjoys firsthand, the amazing, complex, sometimes frustrating, and yet ultimately rewarding journey of parenting.
